Art Deco Architecture

As you celebrate with us, take a moment to explore the spectacular architecture concentrated right here in downtown and the surrounding historic neighborhoods. Detroit is proudly recognized as the United States' only UNESCO City of Design, celebrated worldwide for its structural innovation and beauty.

Strolling through downtown, you will see a soaring timeline of style, from the colorful Art Deco grandeur of the Guardian Building to towering modern glass skyscrapers. The neighborhood's architectural crown jewel is the newly renovated Book Tower. Following a massive, multi-million-dollar restoration project, this 1926 Italian Renaissance masterpiece has been breathtakingly brought back to life. Step inside its three-story public atrium, The Rotunda, to marvel at a restored, jaw-dropping skylight crafted from 6,000 stained glass panels and thousands of shimmering jewels.
