Detroit Institute of Art
We highly recommend visiting the world-renowned Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA), located just minutes from downtown in the cultural heart of Midtown. Spanning over 650,000 square feet, the DIA holds one of the largest, most significant, and most diverse art collections in the United States.
The museum's crown jewel is the majestic Rivera Court, home to the monumental Detroit Industry Murals. Painted by legendary Mexican artist Diego Rivera in the 1930s, these 27 breathtaking fresco panels cover all four walls, celebrating the city's automotive workers and industrial spirit. Beyond this masterpiece, the DIA houses a staggering collection of over 65,000 works of art, ranging from ancient Egyptian artifacts and classic European paintings to an extraordinary, groundbreaking gallery dedicated entirely to African American art.
