Restaurants

There are truly so so many good restaurants that truly cover all tastes, here are a few highlights:

  • Puma is a high-energy hotspot in the Core City neighborhood that serves flavorful Argentine street food—like their signature flame-grilled choripán sandwiches—alongside live DJ sets and creative cocktails.

  • Lafayette Coney Island is perfect for out-of-towners that need to try a classic Detroit coney dog (invented in Detroit, FYI). There is a feud with the neighboring American Coney Island but Lafayette definitely wins out in our book, just watch out for rats!

  • Norm’s is a classic diner, in a picturesque neighborhood serving up 100% homemade Americana staples. Its the best turkey club in town.

  • Bronx Bar is a classic dive bar in Midtown that serves an insanely good burger and amazing fried pickles. Sit on their patio, play some pool, get yelled at by their grumpy bartender, its great!!

  • Rocco’s Italian Deli is the perfect spot for lunch. Henry is a connoisseur of Chicken Parm sandwiches and this truly has a lifetime top 5 sandwich.

  • Michigan & Trumbull is our favorite slice of pizza in town. Detroit Style pizza with its fluffy, focaccia-like crust with a thick layer of melted cheese, has gained fame across the country, but you need to try it from the source.

  • Baobab Fare is a Detroit staple serving outstanding East African food; Baobab is consistently one of the highest rated restaurant in the city.

  • Ima Izakaya has a fantastic selection of Japanese food and a fantastic vibe. They also have great cocktails! Get a res if you can as they tend to be pretty busy on weekend.

  • La Jalisciense is our favorite spot in Detroit’s famous Mexicantown neighborhood. It is the perfect spot for authentic tacos or a sizzling plate of fajitas with a frozen marg.
